I’d never heard of App Meditation until I started attending regular therapy sessions. You may be thinking, why would I look for therapy outside of therapy? Well, it’s simple. I need it. I was a reluctant therapy patient and more or less one foot out the door upon my initial visits. But after a few months, I found my sessions to be more intense, reflective and safe. The later being of most importance.
Slowly, my thereapist became a confidant.
To this day I do not know anything about my therapist aside from the ultra hip office I visit and her impeccable taste in art. Did I mention the couch is yummy? It’s the kind you just sink into and immediately let go.
While I wish I had millions of dollars and could visit her more than I presently do, I can’t and therefore have found other ways of coping while I am away from session. Enter meditation Apps. I should note that I have more than one meditation App on my iPhone because I like to switching things up depending on mood. But the following are two that I’ve enjoyed and even use for sleep purposes are Calm and Smiling Mind. I don’t want to spoil the fun in you discovering these Apps so here are just a few thoughts on their awesomeness.
- Both are free!
- Mind is accredited and used in education institutions to promote meditation skills.
- Calm has a sister App, Calm Sleep that is incredible.
- Meditation Apps are cost effective. I’ve cut my therapy bill in half just by using them!
Take time for yourself.
Whatever your current situation I want to leave you with the following thought: you can really can re-learn how to sleep. Sit with yourself an hour or so before bedtime and just break away. And by break away, I’m talking about no phone or laptop. It will be in these moments that meditation will pacify your subconscious and fight subdued stress. How do you like them apples?
