Right Now

Drum 🥁 roll please…

  • Right now I’m loving my Rejuvenique oil by MONAT. It’s an essential oil I’ve been using for my face and hair over the last six months. Not only do I “swear” by it, I’m officially giving it a #monimusthave, something I don’t do often unless I 💯 believe in a product.
  • I’m enjoying the transition from winter to spring and attending a lot of happy hours 🍾 Not just to have a beer or cocktail but to meet interesting people I might not meet in my neighborhood. I ventured to the Renaissance Hotel in Plano, TX yesterday and wow! It’s gorgeous and so inviting. The “R” above is just an example of its eclectic style and chic lighting. Did I mention I also met someone, too 😍
  • Pastels are typically a Spring must have in my closet but I’m more into muted pastels plus prints. My top above is from Anthropologie and is a light rayon blend that feels smooth on my body. I’m trying my best to only invest in things I absolutely adore and this top for that criteria to a tee.
  • I’ve decided that I will only use the words “I love you” or “I love” unless I really do. Sometimes I catch myself throwing the “Love” word around like water. Must stop now…
  • Last, but not least (and not pictured), it’s Holy Week! It’s been a time of sincere reflection and rest. I’m great full to have had a few extra hours to myself contemplating my life, asking God for guidance, the universe for positive and simply being still. I strongly encourage everyone to take time for themselves, even if it’s not tied to a religious reason.

Let me know how you are doing! I want to hear your story.

Do you feel anything?

There’s something about how I’m feeling today. It’s slightly different than usual and I want to explore share my thoughts with you. I’m actually writing this post from my iPhone so bear with me as I dig a little deeper…

Yesterday I had a semi-stressful day because I was dealing with a graduate 👩🏽‍🎓 group assignment that’s been hard to organize. It’s Thanksgiving holiday so who wants to study?! Also, a romance interest of mine went dark.

I think he disappeared into outer space.

Between balancing emotions and rational thought about either topic I didn’t want to loose myself, to not feel exactly what I needed to so I asked myself “Do you feel anything? I was surprised to discover that I really did, aside from the frustration of either scenario.

When in doubt, read and write.

One thing that my current MBA program has taught me is that reading and writing are the tools to success. It sounds so simplistic and a little plane but it’s the truth.

Think about it, if we didn’t read then we would not be privy to excitement via text messages or subtitled French Noir films. And if we did not write, then we wouldn’t have the ability to express emotion on paper. Sure, we’d be able to explore or share our voice and physical movements but the ability to write is absolutely freeing.

Thankful

I’m not sure this Thanksgiving could be any more bountiful than it already has been in only 24 hours. Let me explain.

I’ve managed to spend time with some of the most important people in my life with nothing more than to eat, drink and be merry. It’s almost poetic the way everyone is so happy around me and it’s brought up a thought: what if life were like this all the time? I’m not sure I’d be a proponent of such non-stop sentimental luxury but I will say this, I like it!

As Told By A Woman Entrepreneur

Good morning, how are you doing today? Let me know in the comments section so that I can keep up todate on your happenings and on that note, I wanted to share a new update from me: I’m kickstarting a new series entitled “As Told By A Woman Entrepreneur” and will be writing about being starting my own business and invite other bloggers to share their stories too. This post recurring theme came to mind because I have recently launched this blog which means that I’m officially an somewhat of an entrepreneur again. Here are a few details on how that happened plus a brief history of my journey as a woman entrepreneur.

PAST: I OWNED A CRAFT BUSINESS IN BROOKLYN, NY BETWEEN 2009 – 2016
That’s right, before fiesta I was a sewing artist living and thriving in NYC by the name of Sew Moni. My business was focused on empowering people to explore the art of sewing or any textile art we could teach out of my sewing studios. I managed to build my business from my Ft. Green Bedroom to actual store fronts in two Brooklyn neighborhoods. Also, I continued to freelance in the PR and Marketing Fashion Industry bringing even more awareness to my crafts company and bottom line: revenue. Owning Sew Moni taught me the grit of business and importance of passion. If it wasn’t for being diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2016 I would most likely still be up and running but life has it’s own sweet agenda.Screen Shot 2017-04-30 at 9.37.40 AM.png

PRESENT: I AM AN MBA STUDENT AND ENTREPRENEUR, AGAIN!
While recovering from cancer and encephalitis (brain inflammation) I’ve had ample time to think about what I want to do next with my life. In the beginning stages of re-self discovery I honestly thought nothing could top my NYC life experiences. To this day, I miss cobble streets, bustling streets, Prospect Park and the list goes on and on and…But I was SO wrong. Enter an online MBA program via TAMU-CC and Arbonne, two new chapters of life that have swept me off my feet. Let me explain.

Getting an MBA or some sort of Masters was something I’d thought about doing before I was diagnosed with Cancer. And, right before I was hospitalized, I had been accepted to Brooklyn College, as an undergraduate to take prerequisite courses for a few master’s programs I was considering. But I got sick and life took it’s course. Fast forward 2 years and I was contacted by a recruiter about TAMU-CC online MBA program. Being an Aggie alumni I thought, “Well, why not?! I love business and having been an entrepreneur via Sew Moni, this seems like a good step. It’ll give me something to do while undergoing immunotherapy and recovery.” So I applied, was accepted, and now I’m only 5 classes away from finishing! The perfect scholastic storm had arrived and it was up to me to ride it’s winds. Seriously, if it wasn’t for this MBA program, I’m not sure my mind or body would’ve survived chemotherapy.

Being a student has allowed me to engage online with fellow MBA students all over the world, create new friendships, dive deeper into business logic, and learn. How cool is that?

While plugging away at my MBA I found myself searching and dreaming of ways to get my mind back. You see, cancer and encephalitis drugs can leave you zapped, sluggish and overwhelmed. BUT they do not take your mind away, your thoughts and words, unless you let them. So, hence my new blog.

At first, I was skeptical about blogging, but after a few posts, I’m in love.

Enter a whole new world of words and ideas that I can’t wait to express. and there you have it: a true story as told by a budding woman entrepreneur!

So, what does one do on a Monday afternoon before it’s quitting time: Google summer floaties! Summer is two shakes away and while I’m still soaking up spring, I’m already one toe in wondering what I’ll be wearing and what floating I must have now. Little did I know floaties are sort of pricey. My advice: choose wisely. Read More

If it wasn’t for my #BFF I don’t know where I’d be today let alone in the next few years. With this on my mind and in thinking about the perfect gift for her I’ve scoured the interwebs to find some inspiration ideas for a friendship bracelet I intend to make. Initially, I didn’t expect to find anything too fabulous but I was dead wrong. Flare Magazine’s “ALANA ZIMMER BY MAX ABADIAN FOR FLARE JUNE 2010” was a fashion lovers dream to discover on Earth Day 2017 and it led me to other sweet discoveries via Etsy. Lets’ just say all the images above now have me wondering if Friendship Bracelet style is forever like my #BFF? I think so!

So in love with pastels not just because it’s spring but because they’re borderline intoxicating.
